RESEARCH PERMITS

Pursuant to 12 V.I.C. § 106, a permit may be issued by the Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources to qualified persons for conducting research, collecting, transporting, restoring, or any other activities involving the natural resources of the Virgin Islands.

The Division of Fish and Wildlife issues these free permits for such qualified persons including:
(A) Collectors for recognized museums, educational institutions, and scientific research organizations;
(B) Persons engaged in bona fide scientific research in connection with such organizations; and
(C) Persons engaged in approved recovery and propagation activities.

DFW permits are for endangered and indigenous species of the U.S. Virgin Islands. To import non-indigenous species, please call the Virgin Islands Department of Agriculture (VIDA) at: 340-778-0997 or download a Non-Indigenous Species Importation Permit and return to VIDA for review.
