Threatened & Endangered Species

DFW partners with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to facilitate conservation and protection of federally listed species that reside in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Currently, there are (16) species listed as either threatened or endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act that call the U.S. Virgin Islands home for all or part of the year. Species such as the Virgin Islands Tree Boa is only found on St. Thomas while others, such as the St. Croix Ground Lizard, is only found on St. Croix. The Division works to implement species specific conservation actions such as population monitoring, reintroduction programs, and site clearance protocols to protect and conserve these species.
